Latest Prayer Letter

Dear Pastors and Praying Friends,
What an incredible month this one has been! We have had some good times, some bad times and some ugly times. Please continue to pray for us that God will use us in amazing ways here in Peru and that we might send the men around the world that can impact and reach lost souls. We thank God that he has allowed us to be a part of training men through the Bible College. God has been so good in sending men out, around the world to preach the gospel. Having a part in their training is a blessing beyond your wildest dreams. We thank God that we were just able to start another semester of Bible College. We have 8 or 9 freshmen starting their studies. We are excited about being able to train these men. This year I am teaching a church planting class. We have 15 students that are taking the class. It is exciting to see them get excited about the chance to start churches as they graduate from college.
Also this month we had the privilege of participating in an ordination service for Renzo Zuñiga. He is in the middle of raising his support to try and make it to North Africa. It is neat seeing the guys grow and prepare for ministries around the world. God has also allowed us this month to have the David Velke family, the Chris Waye family and Mariangela Simeon come to Peru to do their internship and learn about missions. We love training people for the field, on the field. It is exciting to see how God is moving and growing these men that will without a doubt be used wherever God calls them.
On March 21st we had the privilege of launching Omega Baptist Church. During the launch service we had 166 people attend and had a great service. We are excited about all that God is doing in the church and how he is growing the church. We are now averaging right at 100 people on Sunday mornings and are looking into the possibility of starting multiple services because we do not have a big enough building for the people that are arriving. God is so good!
One of the craziest things that happened this month is that I was out trying to play soccer with the young people and fell and broke my foot. Not fun at all and the doctor says that it will take at least 6 weeks to get out of the cast.
Another crazy thing that has happened is that we were called by our landlord and told we had to move because he is renting the house out. We have lived in the same house for over 9 years now and had no idea how great our rent payment is. We have been paying $400 a month. As we go out and look for houses it seems that we will be paying at least double that. Pray that the Lord provides the funds especially for the first months rent. We will have to pay 3 months all at once; two for the guarantee and then a month up front. Pray that we will get the necessary funds to move. We have decided to try and buy a piece of property for ourselves as soon as we can because rent like that is insane. Please keep us in your prayers.
A great thing that has happened is that this month God allowed me to get a new insulin pump. This is a blessing that is amazing. I will be trained over the internet on how to use it.
If you want to know all that is going on down here, check back here regularly or keep up with us on Facebook or twitter. (chrisandandria) May God continue to bless you in all that you do.
Yours for Souls,
Chris, Andria, Jacob, Hannah and Andrew Gardner

House Swap

Something crazy that has happened to us is that we were called by our landlord and told we had to move because he is renting out the house that we live in.  We have lived in the same house for over 9 years now and had no idea how cheap of a house we had, we have been paying $400 a month for that long, well as we go out and look for houses it seems that we will be paying at least double that.  Pray that the Lord provides the funds especially for the first months rent where we have to pay at least three months, two for the guarantee and then a month up front.  Pray that we might get this money.
This is a major change for us.  Our children have not lived in another house before and this is definitely Andria’s and my home.  Please pray that we will be able to make this change easily and that everyone will feel at home in another house.  We have decided to try and buy a piece of property for ourselves as soon as we can because rent like that is insane.  Please keep us in your prayers.

Paradigm Revel

I will soon be receiving a new insulin pump that is supposed to really make managing my diabetes a whole lot easier.  It is called “The Paradigm Revel” made by MiniMed.  What is different about this pump is it’s continual glucose monitoring system.  It automatically checks my blood every 5 minutes and will alarm me when the levels have a significant change.  This ought to eliminate the sugar highs and lows that are so physically damaging and common among diabetics.   I am very excited about this because in keeping my sugar levels more stable, it will reduce the amount of time, energy, and focus that I have to give my condition, freeing me up to do more ministry.

Here is what the MiniMed website says:
“A truly integrated diabetes management system makes it all possible.
When you take a complete, 360-degree approach to your diabetes management, something amazing happens. Lowering your A1C suddenly becomes far more manageable. Achieving tighter control over your glucose becomes second nature.”
Another great thing about this pump is that it will sync with an account I have on the internet that my doctor will check at least once a week.  This is a huge improvement on the frequency of times I am checked by doctors.  Right now I usually have a check up about once every two to three years (it will be at least once a week).  My doctor will be able to regularly contact me after seeing the information and tell me what I need to change.
When I first began looking at this pump I was told that I would have to fly back to the states in order to be trained on how to use it.  I really didn’t want to do that because it would cost me roughly $2,000 just to fly back and stay a couple of days.  My family and church have been praying that we would be able to find another way.  God has answered our prayers!  Yesterday we were able to arrange a meeting via Skype with a lady from MiniMed that will be able to train me on April 19th.  My parents will be travelling down here in another week or so and will be able to bring the pump with them.

Omega Acustico

Last week we had a very special song service at Omega Baptist Church called “Omega Acustico”.  My brother, David Gardner, did a great job leading the music.  He also was able to baptize a young man named Alexander (but known as Churri).  After a couple of songs David stopped and preached from the Bible about music and worship.  My favorite singer, Andria (my wife), sang a couple of specials and everyone did an absolutely amazing job.
I am so thankful to have the opportunity to be a part of and lead a church with such a heart for God.  It was great to see people who were only recently in the world, unsaved, unchurched, and completely ignorant about God’s love, come and sing praises to His name, thanking Him for working in their lives and saving them.

Welcome Mariangela

Well we are excited to have Mariangela Simeon here to train under us in Peru. She will be here for the next 6 months on an internship program with us.
Pray that God will use her life in amazing ways and that she will be able to do well in her language learning.  I’m sure she will because she already speaks multiple languages and will be sharing a room with three or four Peruvian girls.  She chose this option over living with one American.
I would like to thank my dad and pastor, Austin Gardner, and Vision Baptist Church for being willing to give her up for a while. I know that she is very involved in the music program at Vision.  It is a pleasure to be a part of the same church as this godly young lady and especially to have her here working alongside us.
We are so thankful for how God is using the ministry here and allowing us the privilege of training others to be a part in reaching the world with the gospel.

Omega’s Launch

On March 21st we officially launched Omega Baptist Church in Arequipa, Peru.  We had been meeting for a couple of months and promoting March 21st as our launch date.  God truly blessed by allowing us to have 166 people in attendance.  Now a few weeks after we are still averaging over 100 on Sunday mornings.  We may need to go to two service soon or find a larger room to meet in.  We are so thankful to God for blessing that day and for continuing to bless this ministry.  Our goal is to evangelize the lost and to train the saved for service.
Omega will be organized (constitution, membership agreement, etc.) on April 18th.  My father, Austin Gardner, will be here with several members of his church for that.  It is amazing to see how God has brought everything together for this church.  God has called people out of the world and saved them and put them in Omega.  God has allowed us to have the same anniversary as my home church (Vision Baptist Church).  God has given us a fantastic building (to rent).  God has given us a great staff of men and women to work with who all have the same heart and mind of loving God and reaching people.
I thank God for Omega.  I beg you to please pray with me that God will continue to bless this ministry and allow us to reach the lost.

Goodbye Victoria

Last week we had a very hard day.  Victoria Navarre, the mother of Pastor Luis of Hunter Baptist Church, passed away early Tuesday morning.  She was in her 50’s.  She died of cancer.  She was diagnosed only about 4 months ago.  Her life has been an example to many women here and she has been a great servant of God.  She was an example of Christian love and a willing heart in her home, in her church, and to all who knew her.
The funeral for Mrs. Navarre was held last Wednesday and, just as they always do here, the family put the first few shovel fulls of dirt down the grave.  It is such a horrific sound that no one can explain until you experience it yourself.

I would like to ask that you please keep the Navarre family in your prayers.  They have lost someone very dear to them that will never be replaced.  I praise God for her life and testimony.  I praise God for the family and the way that they have peace from God that passes all understanding.
