Check out what God is doing around South America

God has given us the privilege of working with some incredible men here in South America. They came to Peru to go to our language school and cultural training center. Honestly this is one of the most important times in the life of a missionary. We have just gotten reports in from Jason Holt in Chile and Kevin White in Bolivia. Needless to say, Peru is not the only place where God is moving. Pray for these men and for the ministries that the Lord has given them. Click on their names and you will be able to read all that God is doing.

Comments please

Well, we encourage you to leave comments on our blog. That way if we hear of questions you guys have then we can answer them here. I was asked by a good friend of ours how the exchange rate is doing now. Well the exchange rate is now up to 3.025. This is great considering where it has been. Of course it is still nowhere near what it was before when it was at 3.15 about a month ago. The greatest thing is that it is going up again. Continue to pray for this that the money situation will come back up here soon.

It’s a ghost town!!!

Well, if you were to walk outside right now, Arequipa looks like a ghost town. Today is census day, they count the entire country in 10 hours. You have to stay in your house, if you do not, they will arrest you and count you there. No vehicle noises, no movement outside, I don’t remember the last time I have seen Peru like this. It would be perfect footage for some kind of movie. Because of this, the law says that you cannot have public assembly between 8 am and 6 pm. Because of this, we had our service this morning at 6:30 am. Not bad, seeing we had 240 in attendance at that time in the morning. We will be changing our services to 6:30 pm so that the people can get to the services tonight.

We need more than support!!!

Well, many times churches and individuals think that what a missionary needs more than anything else is money. Everything is about support you know. We have actually had a couple of people over the years get upset about the fact that funds were always necessary. They want to know how many souls get saved but they do not want to hear about the money necessary to make that happen.
Without a doubt, funds are needed to do the ministry here or in any other part of the world. The Bible says that where your treasure is there your heart will be also. Kind of interesting people don’t want to hear about the financial needs on the mission field might then understand where their heart is. Funds are necessary, whether in the US or in Peru, but we need so much more than just money.
One thing that I have found is that I have never had a person that has been to the mission field to visit the ministry here ask why we say so much about money. Maybe it is time that you go to the mission field and see what God is doing. We need more than support, we need yokefellows. A yokefellow is a person that takes the ministry as personal as anything else in their lives. My kids are getting to an age where they are always needing new stuff that takes money, that doesn’t bother me, it is necessary to invest for the future. They are not a financial liability they are my family. Encourage the people of your church to go and visit missionaries to get their heartbeat. That will definitely change the way that they invest in missions.
We need more than support, God has given us the privilege of finding yokefellows that really understand what is going on here on the mission field. Vision Baptist Church is one of them. I couldn’t ask for a better home church than Vision Baptist Church, we have never had a dream or a plan that was too big for them, they always seem to get it and try and be a part of what is going on. Another yokefellow that the Lord has given us is John Pearson, he is a member of Vision Baptist. Not a week goes by that I do not hear from him. This makes me pray for my church and also for Bro. Pearson more because of their position in our ministry. It isn’t about just sending money, make an emotional investment in the missionaries that God has given you.

Everybody is gone

Well, we are by ourselves once again. We had a group from Vision Baptist Church. We had a great time with everyone and we were excited about having them here with us. One of the greatest things that I think is necessary is that everyone ought to try and go to the place that the Lord is allowing their church members to work in. This allows them to see all that God is doing on the mission field and empowers them to pray so much better for their members. Of course, it felt kind of weird to give everyone a tour of the Bible College that Dad started with dad sitting there, but I think they had an opportunity to see what God is doing here.
We also had the privilege of having Pastor Brent Armstrong visit with us here in Arequipa. He came in on Tuesday and left on Friday. We had a wonderful time with him. He preached at Faith on Wednesday night and at Hunter Baptist Church on Thursday. Both of his messages had to do with the family and both were really good. Pastor Armstrong in the dad of Benjamin Armstrong. Benjamin has been here in Peru working with us for about 4 months now. God has used him in incredible ways. He is talking about working here in Peru with us, this is very exciting, I have been praying for a guy like him every since Dad left. He is a great help to the ministry here. Keep him in your prayers.

Great Pastor’s School

Well, the pastor’s school is now over, we had a wonderful time and God really used Bro. Gardner in an incredible way. He preached close to 20 times while he was here. Powerful messages would be an understatement. We enjoyed having him here with us. The grandkids had a blast with him and he was able to be here for Andrew’s first Birthday. We had up to 1600 people there for the Pastor’s School and it was a great time all around, we had people arrive from all over Peru and also from Chile, Bolivia and Argentina among others. We are excited about all that God did throughout the week. The pastor’s school is a great time and we are able to encourage many people and teach them from the Word of God. This is also one of the most expensive weeks in our year, this year we spent around 6,000 dollars, if you would like to help with these expenses, please let us know. May God continue to bless you in all you do for him.

A group from Vision Baptist arriving in Peru tomorrow

My dad and mom, John Pearson and quite a few others are coming down to visit us here in Peru. They will be doing a lot of stuff in the Pastor’s School etc. The kids are looking forward to seeing their Grandparents and Uncle John and Aunt Sandy. They have been asking for a couple of weeks if they are coming today, when I say no they say tomorrow? Well they got a yes today and they are excited. Please pray for them as they are down here with us. Pray that the Lord would use them while they are here.

Breakfast this morning

I try to take a family from the church out for breakfast each Sunday between the two services. This gives a cut off time to the time we spend together. This is necessary in a Latin American country where it is hard to end stuff some times. Well I took the family out for a sandwich at about 9:30. I asked him when he accepted Christ and got a very pleasant surprise. He said that he had gotten saved while I was preaching one day. I asked him how he had gotten to Faith and he said that he accepted Christ after a message that he saw me preaching on TV. It is exciting to see how this ministry has change so many peoples lives. They take a 40 minute bus ride to get to the church for every service. They are faithful members. What is funny is that there is a good church closer to their house so I told him about it he said “that is great but I want to go to church under the guy that I got saved under.” It is incredible to see all that God has done through our TV station. The father told me today that there were at least 20 people in the church that had come as a result of his family witnessing. It is amazing how God is using this technology to see people come to him. Pray that the Lord would continue to use the TV station to see people come to Christ.

Let’s re (riiiiing) lax

Well, I have a friend that plays soccer on a semi professional team. I figured I would go watch his game this afternoon. In Peru, they have a championship every year where the top two teams come up into the professional league and then the two worst teams descend and are no longer considered professionals. Well my friend Jimmy Bustos was playing so I decided to go watch the game. Benjamin Armstrong and I went and paid 1.75 to watch the game in the biggest stadium in the city. Great game, his team won 7 to 1. I walked out and was getting on the motorcycle when I got a phone call.
The call was from one of the workers at the church and he said Chris I need you to come do some counseling right now. Anyway to make a long story short, I had to go and deal with a wife that has been cheating on her husband. She was caught and was begging her husband to forgive her. I have to deal with this kind of things way too much, but I would have to say that the shock is always really bad. To watch how so much can be thrown away for just a few minutes of pleasure. I was there for a few hours. I would like to ask you to pray for them as they go through a very difficult time that the Lord would help them try and get things right again. What a shame to see all that can happen. Also pray for me that I can help them get through this time in their lives.
People always have so many opinions of how easy or how hard it is on the mission field, all I can say today is that I would be willing to trade spaces. It isn’t fun having to deal with sins like these, but it is necessary if you want to see lives changed, I guess that would mean that they were pretty messed up in the first place. Thanks for praying for us.

Juan and Ursula Pacheco had their 4th child

Well, Juan and Ursula had their 4th child on Friday. They had a beautiful baby girl. Her name is Angeline Rebecca Pacheco. Faith Baptist Church is having him over to the church to preach for us on Sunday evening. The church is planning on taking up a love offering for them. God has allowed Bro. Pacheco to pastor one of the greatest churches here in Arequipa. He is pastoring at Lighthouse Baptist Church, they have an average of close to 200 in their services. We thank God for the privilege of working with him. Please keep them in your prayers that the Lord would use them to bring honor and glory to God through Rebecca’s life.
